Light brown, honestly

The upside is the look: light brown sheepskin against cream wool is a soft, tonal combination that photographs beautifully and works with camel, cream, white and pale denim.

The downside is that pale hide shows marks more readily than dark. The main risk is dye transfer from a dark bag strap or new denim, which usually lifts with a leather-safe cleaner if dealt with early. Sheepskin construction

The hide side blocks wind completely and the wool side traps warm air, both from the same skin. There is no separate lining to shift, no seam for cold to find, and no wadding to compress. That is why sheepskin does not lose warmth over the years the way a padded jacket does.

Wool is left at full depth. Cuffs and hem are finished in sheepskin so there is no cold gap at the wrist or waist, and the collar is shearling rather than plain leather so it is warm against the neck.

Cut for a woman's frame with narrower shoulders and a hip-length body. Take your normal size — room for a jumper underneath is already built in, so avoid sizing up unless you want it loose.

It is heavy, as all full sheepskin is. There is no lightweight version of the material, and anything sold as one is not full sheepskin.

Styling

Light brown shearling is at its best in a pale outfit: cream knit, white shirt, light denim, camel trousers.
