Dark Brown Men B3 Bomber Shealring Leather Jacket
The B3 is the warmest jacket ever put into general production, and this dark brown version is the classic execution of it. Real sheepskin with the wool left on the inside, a thick shearling collar that turns up and buckles closed across the throat, and a body cut short and wide so it works sitting down. It was designed for unheated bomber cockpits at altitude, and it is still the reference point for winter warmth.

Why a B3 is warm
Sheepskin is a single material doing two jobs. The hide side is wind and weather proof; the wool side traps air against you. Because they are the same piece of skin, there is no lining to shift, no seam for cold air to find, and no insulation to compress and thin out over time. It is a simpler and more effective system than any layered jacket.
The double straps at the collar are the detail that finishes the job. Buckled closed, they seal the neck opening completely, which is where most of the heat in any jacket escapes.
The dark brown finish
Dark brown was the standard issue colour and it is still the one that ages best. It deepens rather than fades, and the wear points — cuffs, front edges, the collar where the straps sit — lighten slightly to give the jacket its history. Against the cream wool the contrast is what makes the B3 immediately recognisable.
This is a reproduction of the pattern, not military surplus, and we would not describe it otherwise. It is built to the original proportions in new hide.
Weight, fit and wearing it
A B3 is heavy, and there is no getting around it. Full sheepskin with wool attached weighs several times what a plain leather jacket does. In exchange you get a jacket that handles cold nothing else does. Most owners find the weight becomes reassuring rather than tiring.
The cut is short and wide by design — short so it does not bunch when you sit, wide so it goes over a jumper. Take your normal size; the pattern already includes room for a thick layer, so do not size up unless you want it very loose. Frequently Asked Questions
Is the wool real sheepskin?
Yes. The wool is the natural fleece of the same hide, not a fake fur lining sewn in.
Is this military surplus?
No. It is a reproduction of the B3 pattern built in new sheepskin to the original proportions.
How warm is it really?
It is the warmest jacket we make. It was designed for unheated aircraft at altitude and is more than most people need in a normal winter.
Is it heavy?
Yes. Full sheepskin is several times the weight of plain leather. That weight is inseparable from the warmth.
What size should I order?
Your normal size. The pattern already allows room for a jumper, so avoid sizing up unless you want it very loose.
Can I wear it in the rain?
Light rain is fine — wipe it and let it dry naturally. Sheepskin should never be soaked or dried near a heater.
How do I care for it?
Wipe the leather with a dry cloth and brush the wool with a soft brush. Never machine wash, dry clean or soak a sheepskin jacket.
