What makes chinchilla different

Density. Chinchilla has far more hairs per follicle than most furs, which is why it feels the way it does and why the pile stands up rather than lying flat. That density is also what produces the shading — light penetrates the pile and reflects back differently at the base than at the tips, so the collar has tonal depth built in.

The practical consequence is that it needs gentler handling than a coarser fur. Brush it lightly with a soft brush; a stiff brush or heavy strokes will break the fine hairs, and once broken they do not recover.

Grey fur on black leather

A mid-grey collar on black is the middle ground between the two obvious options. A black collar disappears into the jacket outline; a white or pale collar separates completely and dominates. Grey does neither — the collar reads as a distinct element without becoming the only thing anyone sees.
