Black Wool & Red Leather Sleeves jacket
This inverts the usual arrangement. Most varsity jackets put the strong colour on the body and the neutral on the sleeves; this one does the opposite — a black wool body with red leather sleeves. The effect is different: the eye reads a dark jacket with red arms rather than a red jacket, so it is bolder in motion and quieter standing still.

Why the inversion works
A black body is the larger surface, so it sets the overall tone of the jacket — from a distance this reads as a dark jacket. The red only appears when you move your arms, which is why it is more striking in motion than a red-bodied jacket is.
Practically, it is also easier to wear. A black body means the jacket sits with black jeans, dark denim and grey without the whole outfit having to organise itself around a red torso.
For the traditional arrangement, our red-bodied varsity is in the same Men Varsity Jackets range.
Red leather sleeves
Red on hide has more depth than red on wool — darker in the creases and at the seams, brighter across the flat panels — which is why leather sleeves in a strong colour look richer than fabric ones. Slight tonal variation between panels is normal on dyed hide.
Like any strong dye, red lightens over years in direct sunlight, so hang the jacket out of a sunny window.
Wool and leather construction
The split is functional. Wool across the body is warm and comfortable to sit against; leather on the sleeves takes the abrasion sleeves actually get. The shoulder seam where the two meet is double stitched and reinforced, because a seam joining two different materials under load is where a varsity most often fails.
Snap front placket with each snap set through a reinforced tab. Dense knit rib at the collar, cuffs and hem that recovers rather than stretching. Two angled side pockets, a lined body, and a plain back panel for lettering.
Fit and styling
Regular varsity fit, roomier than a modern bomber. Take your normal size — room for a hoodie is already built in.
Black jeans or dark denim, plain top, trainers or boots. With red sleeves the jacket carries the colour, so nothing else needs to. See our Men Bomber Leather Jackets or Men Leather Jackets for all-leather shapes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are the sleeves real leather?
Yes, genuine leather dyed red. The body is wool, which is the traditional varsity construction.
How is this different from a red-bodied varsity?
The black body sets the overall tone, so the jacket reads dark from a distance and the red only shows when you move. It is easier to wear with dark clothes.
Will the red sleeves fade?
Not with normal wear. Long exposure to direct sunlight lightens any strong dye, so store it out of a sunny window.
Is tonal variation in the sleeves normal?
Yes. Leather takes dye unevenly by nature, and that variation is what gives the red its depth.
Can I add lettering or a patch?
Yes. The back panel is left plain for that.
What size should I order?
Your normal size. Room for a hoodie is already built into the varsity fit. Custom sizing is free.
How do I clean it?
Dry cloth on the leather sleeves, soft brush on the wool body. Never machine wash or dry clean.
