The four measurements that decide the fit
Waist — where you actually wear the band, not at your natural waist. Hip — at the fullest point of the seat; this determines whether you can sit down comfortably. Thigh — at the fullest point; the most common cause of leather trousers not working, because standard sizing scales the thigh to the waist and plenty of people do not follow that proportion. Inside leg — leather hems must be re-turned and stitched rather than simply folded, so it is easier to get right first time. Send all four with the Custom option and the fit is settled.
What can and cannot be altered later
Length can be shortened by any alterations shop. The waist can be taken in a little at the back seam. The thigh cannot be let out — there is no seam allowance to release in leather and added material would show. That is why the thigh is the measurement to get right.
Living with leather trousers
They relax at the knee and seat within a couple of weeks of wear and stay relaxed — so buy them fitting close rather than comfortable, or they will be baggy at the knee within a month. Wipe the inside as well as the outside occasionally, because body oils affect leather worn against the skin far more than they affect a jacket. Hang them rather than folding, since a crease set into the seat or the back of the knee is difficult to remove. Never machine wash and never dry near heat.
