The V collar

Closed, it stands high around the neck and seals the throat gap that leather alone leaves open. Opened, it falls into a wide V across the chest and shoulders. The neckline and shoulder seams are reinforced to carry its weight, which is what stops a heavy collar dragging the jacket off the shoulders.

The collar is shearling — natural sheepskin wool. Brush it rather than wiping, and never use leather conditioner on it, which mats the wool permanently.
