The hardware on this jacket sits at the front — shoulders, lapels, sleeve lines — and the back panel is left clear. That is deliberate. A back patch is the traditional centrepiece of a punk jacket, and a panel already covered in studs leaves you nowhere to put one.

The hide is chosen heavy enough to take stitching later without tearing, so a repair shop or a steady hand can sew patches straight onto it. If you plan to add more studs yourself, work from the reverse and use backing washers, exactly as we do.

How the hardware is fitted

Each spike and stud passes through the leather and is closed against a washer on the reverse. Machine-pressed hardware skips that, letting the prongs bear directly on the hide until they cut through and the stud drops out. Doing it by hand is slow and it is the reason this jacket takes longer to make than a plain one.

Shoulder seams are reinforced where the metal load concentrates, and the interior is fully lined so nothing on the reverse touches you.

Fit and living with it

Slim biker cut ending at the hip. Take your normal size over a tee or thin top, and size up if a jumper is going underneath — studded panels have very little give.

Spikes catch on things, so hang it on a wide hanger with space around it rather than crushing it into a wardrobe. It is heavier than a plain jacket, which is what makes it hang the way it does.
