These high-rise wide-leg leather jeans are cut on a jeans pattern — five pockets, a jeans waistband, a zip fly — and then made in real leather with a wide leg that falls straight from a high waist. Wide-leg leather is a very different proposition from skinny leather: it does not touch your legs, so it is comfortable in a way fitted leather trousers never are, and it moves like fabric because the leg has room to swing.

Jeans construction in leather

The pattern is a proper five-pocket jeans cut: two front scoop pockets, a coin pocket, two patch pockets on the back, and a curved yoke below the waistband. Building that in leather is more work than building it in denim, because every pocket bag has to be backed and every rivet point reinforced so it does not tear the hide.

The waistband is a separate faced piece with belt loops, sitting high on the natural waist. The yoke below it is what gives the seat its shape without darts, exactly as on a pair of jeans.

The wide leg

The leg is cut wide from the hip and falls straight to a full-length hem. For that to hang properly the leather has to have enough weight to fall rather than flutter, which is why this hide is chosen heavier than the one we use for skinny trousers.

Comfort is the main practical benefit. Because the leg never touches your knee, there is no pulling when you sit and no bagging over time. It is the easiest leather trouser shape to wear for a full day.

Fit and styling

Take your normal jeans size. Leather has no stretch, so go up rather than down if you are between sizes. Hem length matters more on a wide leg than on any other shape — too short and the proportion collapses. If your inside leg is outside the standard range, take Custom.
