This ladies biker waistcoat laces down both sides, which is what makes it the most adjustable vest in our women's range. Leather does not stretch, so a sewn vest either fits at the chest or it does not. Side lacing removes that problem entirely — tighten it to sit close over a top, loosen it to go over a jacket or a jumper, and the vest fits properly in both cases.

What the lacing does

The side seams are left open and closed with leather lacing through metal eyelets, giving a couple of inches of adjustment at the chest and waist. That is enough to change how the vest sits between seasons, or to take it from close over a vest top to comfortably over a knit.

It also means the vest keeps fitting over time, which a sewn one does not. On a leather garment that is a genuine advantage rather than a marketing point.

Cut for women

This is drafted as a women's pattern rather than a small men's vest. The side seams are shaped, the armholes are set higher so the vest stays on the shoulder rather than sliding back, and the body ends at the hip rather than below it. Those three changes are what stop a leather vest hanging straight and shapeless.

The lacing works with the shaping rather than against it — drawn tight it emphasises the waist, left loose it relaxes the line.

Build

Eyelets are metal, set through reinforced tabs so the lace does not cut into the hide over time. The lacing is leather rather than cord, which lasts longer and does not fray or shrink when damp. Seams are double stitched, and the back panel is left plain and uninterrupted.

Fit and styling

Take your normal size to wear over a top or fine knit. Size up if you plan to wear it over a leather jacket — the lacing gives adjustment but not a whole size worth.
