The dropped shoulder, and why it changes everything
On a fitted shirt the shoulder seam sits exactly on the point of your shoulder. Drop that seam an inch or two down the arm and the whole garment relaxes: the sleeve hangs softer, the body widens, and there is room to wear a knit underneath without the shirt straining. It is the same construction trick used in overshirts and shackets, and in leather it is particularly useful because leather cannot stretch to accommodate a layer beneath it.
Wearing it as a layer
Over a fine knit or a T-shirt it is a light jacket for spring and autumn. Over a shirt it becomes the middle layer under a coat in winter. Because it is longer at the hem, it also works over dresses and with leggings, where a cropped jacket would cut the line awkwardly. Sleeves can be pushed up — soft leather holds a rolled sleeve reasonably well, though it will need smoothing back down.
Keeping the shape
A relaxed leather garment relies on its own weight to hang correctly, which means storage matters. Use a broad hanger that supports the whole shoulder, not a thin wire one, and never fold it away for a season — the crease sets into soft leather and does not lift out. If the shoulders do get marked by a hanger, hanging it in a steamy bathroom for twenty minutes and then letting it dry naturally usually relaxes them.
