A slimmer shearling
The B3 pattern is wide because it had to fit over parachute harnesses and flight clothing. Nobody needs that today, and the extra width is what makes a lot of shearling jackets look shapeless on the street.
This one narrows the shoulders and the body while keeping the sheepskin construction intact. The result sits closer, layers under a coat if you want, and does not read as a costume. The one thing you lose is room for a very thick jumper — take that into account when sizing.
Sheepskin construction
The hide side blocks wind completely and the wool side traps warm air against you, both from the same skin. There is no separate lining to shift and no wadding to compress, so the jacket stays as warm in year ten as it was new.
The wool is left at full depth because depth is what insulates. Cuffs and hem are finished in sheepskin so there is no cold gap at the wrist or waist, and the collar turns up and straps closed to seal the neck.
Fit and styling
Take your normal size for wearing over a shirt or fine knit. If a thick jumper is going underneath, size up — unlike a full B3, this pattern does not include that room by default.
