David Lusn This is a really nice jacket. I was surprised at how good the quality of the leather was.
Buy a brown leather jacket and you are buying something that changes. Within a year it will not look the way it does in the photographs, and that is the entire point — but it is worth knowing what actually happens and why.
Two processes, happening at once. First, abrasion: where the leather rubs — elbows, forearms, front edges, the area under a bag strap — the surface finish wears microscopically thinner, so more light passes into the hide and those areas lighten.
Second, compression: where the leather folds repeatedly, the fibres compact and the finish darkens in the crease.
The result is a jacket with lighter high points and darker recesses — exactly the effect that distressed finishes try to imitate at the tannery. On brown it is clearly visible. On black it happens identically and you cannot see it.
Conditioning once or twice a year keeps the hide supple so it creases rather than cracks. That is the single most useful thing you can do.
Sunlight is what hurts. Brown is a dyed shade, and sustained UV lightens it unevenly — which is different from patina and does not look good. Store it in a cupboard, not on a hook by a window.
Regular fit with room for a shirt or fine knit at your usual size. Rib hem at the waist. Size down for closer over a tee.
Care: wipe with a soft dry cloth, dry naturally if it gets wet, condition once or twice a year, and hang rather than fold.

Abrasion thins the finish on high points so they lighten, while repeated folding compacts the fibres so creases darken.
