Men’s Military Jacket RAF Aviator Genuine Fur Shearling Leather Bomber Coat
First, clarity on two things in the title. This is a fashion jacket in the aviator style — it is not military issue, carries no insignia, rank or squadron markings, and has no affiliation with the RAF or any other air force. And the "fur" is sheepskin shearling: the natural wool of the sheep, still attached to its own skin, which is what every genuine aviator jacket of this type uses. It sits in our B3 leather bomber jackets range.

Why these jackets exist at all
High-altitude bomber crews in the 1930s and 40s flew in unheated, unpressurised aircraft at temperatures well below anything experienced on the ground. Synthetic insulation did not exist. The answer was sheepskin worn wool-inward, which trapped a deep, even layer of air against the body with a wind-blocking leather face outside. It remains one of the warmest garments ever made, and nothing has replaced it for sheer warmth per layer.
The collar strap
The buckled strap across the collar is not decoration. Pulled tight it closes the deep collar around the throat and seals the jacket's biggest heat leak; released, the collar folds open. On the originals this was the difference between comfortable and dangerous at altitude. On a modern coat it is the difference between wearing a scarf and not needing one.
Living with sheepskin
It is heavy and bulky — that is the cost of the warmth, and it does not layer under anything. Never wash it or let it soak; water mats the wool and hardens the skin permanently. Brush the wool at the collar and cuffs to keep it lofted, and air the jacket rather than cleaning it, since sheepskin resists odour naturally. When it does need cleaning, use a specialist sheepskin cleaner rather than an ordinary dry cleaner, whose solvents strip the skin's oils.
Sizing and made to order
Measure your chest over a jumper, since that is what you will wear underneath. Sizes run XS to 5XL, with Custom taking chest, waist, shoulder, sleeve, and body length.
