They will smell of leather — strongly at first, fading over a couple of weeks of airing. They will feel firmer than fabric shorts and slightly cool against the skin until they warm up. There may be very slight tonal variation between panels, which is normal in dyed hide and is a sign the leather is dyed rather than coated. And they will be creased from packing; hang them for a day or two and most creases fall out under the leather's own weight.
The first few wears
Sheepskin softens quickly. The waist, seat and thigh relax to your shape within a week or two of regular wear, and once relaxed they stay that way — leather does not shrink back. That is exactly why we say to order them fitting close rather than comfortable: a pair that feels roomy on day one will be loose in a month.

Wipe them with a dry cloth after each wear, inside as well as out, because body oils affect leather worn against the skin more than they affect a jacket. Air them rather than putting them straight into a wardrobe. Hang them, never fold, since a crease set into the seat is hard to remove. Condition once a year with a clear conditioner. Never machine wash and never dry them near heat, which hardens leather permanently.
