Why half sleeves change things

Leather does not breathe, which is the single reason leather shirts are usually cold-weather garments. Removing the sleeves below the bicep removes a large part of the covered surface area and, more importantly, frees the forearms — the part of the arm that sheds heat fastest. The practical result is a leather shirt you can wear in warm weather without immediately regretting it.

It also changes the look entirely. A half-sleeve leather shirt is casual by definition; there is no way to wear one formally, and it does not try to be.

Grey rather than black

Grey leather is less common than black and considerably more useful in warm weather, because it does not absorb heat the way black does and it does not look out of place in daylight. Sleeve hems are turned and stitched rather than left raw, so they hold their shape at the bicep instead of curling — the detail that most often goes wrong on a short-sleeve leather shirt.
