Building a five-pocket pattern in leather is considerably more work than building it in denim. Every pocket bag has to be backed, every rivet or stress point reinforced, and the yoke seam — the curved panel below the waistband that shapes the seat — has to be eased in rather than pulled, because leather does not give the way woven cotton does.
Get any of that wrong and the trousers pull across the seat or the pockets tear out. It is the reason most leather trousers use a simpler two-pocket pattern.
Why the jeans shape is the easy one to wear
Familiarity. A five-pocket cut sits where you expect, has pockets where your hands go, and takes a belt. Compared with a moto or panelled leather trouser it asks nothing of you — you put them on like jeans and they behave like jeans, just in leather.
