Why white costs more to make

On black leather a small grain irregularity vanishes. On white it is the first thing anyone sees, so more of every hide is set aside and only clean sections are used — which means a white jacket uses more skin than a black one of the same size.

Stitching has the same exposure. A seam that wanders by a millimetre is invisible on black and obvious on white. And on a varsity there are more visible seams than on most jackets, because the ribbed trims meet the leather at the collar, both cuffs and all the way round the hem.

Owning white leather, honestly

It needs more care than black. The main risk is dye transfer — from dark denim, a black bag strap, or a car seat. Caught early it usually lifts with a leather-safe cleaner; left for weeks it may not.

Practical habits that make it easy: hang it with space around it rather than pressed against darker clothes, wipe it down when you take it off rather than at the end of the season, and be conscious of what your bag strap is doing to the shoulder.

The varsity build

Snap front placket, each snap set through a reinforced tab. Ribbed collar, cuffs and hem in a dense knit that recovers rather than stretching out. Angled hip pockets. A plain back panel for lettering or a patch.

A snap front leaves small gaps between fasteners where a zip seals, so this is a mild-weather jacket rather than a winter one.

Fit and styling
