Pale fur on a black shell
Contrast is the design here. A dark collar on a dark shell blends into the outline of the jacket; a pale one separates completely, so the collar becomes a distinct shape rather than part of the silhouette. That is why crystal fox is the version people notice.
The practical consequence is that a pale collar shows marks more readily than a dark one, particularly at the front where it sits against the chin and where a bag strap crosses it. It is not difficult to look after — brushing keeps it clean — but it needs slightly more attention than a black collar. The nylon shell
Stated plainly: the shell is nylon, not leather. That is deliberate. Nylon is lighter than leather, which matters on a jacket carrying a heavy collar, it sheds rain rather than absorbing it, and it wipes clean in seconds. What you give up is the hand and ageing of real hide.
The shell blocks wind completely and the jacket is lined through the body, so it is a genuine winter jacket rather than a three-season one.
The V collar
Opened out, the collar falls into a wide V across the chest and shoulders. Closed, it stands high around the neck and seals the gap at the throat where most heat escapes. The neckline and shoulder seams are reinforced to carry its weight, which a nylon shell needs more than leather does.
Caring for pale fur
Brush with a soft brush rather than wiping. Never soak it, and never use conditioner or cleaner — both mat the fibres permanently. If it gets wet, shake it out, dry naturally away from heat, then brush once dry. Store hanging with space around the collar; crushing flattens fur, and on a pale fur that flattening shows more than on a dark one.
