Red Wool & White Leather Sleeves jacket
Red body, white sleeves — this is the most recognisable varsity colourway there is, and the one most people picture when they hear the word letterman. It is a red wool body with genuine white leather sleeves, ribbed trims and a snap front. There is nothing subtle about it, and that is the point: a varsity in team colours is meant to be seen from the other side of a field.

The classic colourway
Red and white is the combination that reads varsity fastest, because it is the highest-contrast pairing that still looks like team kit rather than a fashion experiment. The white sleeves separate completely from the body, so the jacket has a clear graphic shape rather than blending into one mass.
It is worth being realistic: this is a jacket that gets noticed. If you want the varsity shape in something you can wear without comment, the plain black and all-leather versions are in our Men Varsity Jackets range.
Wool and leather
The split is functional as well as visual. Wool across the body is warm, breathable and comfortable to sit against; leather on the sleeves handles the abrasion sleeves actually get — desks, doors, bag straps. Each material does what it is best at, which is why the construction has lasted a century.
The shoulder seam where the two meet is double stitched and reinforced. Two different materials joined at a load-bearing seam is the point a varsity most often fails, and reinforcing it is what a good one does.
Caring for two materials
The sleeves and body need different handling. Wipe the leather sleeves with a dry cloth; brush the wool body with a soft clothes brush. Never machine wash or dry clean the jacket — wool and leather respond differently to both, and what is safe for one damages the other.
White leather also shows dye transfer from dark bags or new denim. Treated quickly with a leather-safe cleaner it usually lifts.
Build and fit
Snap front placket with each snap set through a reinforced tab. Dense knit rib at the collar, cuffs and hem that recovers rather than stretching. Two angled side pockets, a lined body, and a plain back panel for lettering or a patch.
Regular varsity fit — roomier than a modern bomber. Take your normal size, since room for a hoodie is already built in. Jeans and trainers, and keep everything else plain. See our Men Bomber Leather Jackets or Men Leather Jackets.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are the sleeves real leather?
Yes, genuine leather. The body is wool, which is the traditional varsity construction.
Can I add lettering or a patch?
Yes. The back panel is left plain for exactly that.
Do white sleeves mark easily?
More than dark ones. Dye transfer from bags or new denim is the main risk and usually lifts with a leather-safe cleaner if treated early.
How do I clean a wool and leather jacket?
Dry cloth on the leather, soft brush on the wool. Never machine wash or dry clean — what suits one material damages the other.
Can I wear a hoodie underneath?
Yes. Varsity proportions are roomier than a modern bomber.
What size should I order?
Your normal size. Avoid sizing up unless you want it noticeably loose. Custom sizing is free.
Is red and white the traditional colourway?
It is the most recognisable one, and the highest-contrast pairing that still reads as team kit.
