Why the zip runs off-centre
The asymmetric zip is not a styling choice — it started as a practical one. A rider leaning forward gets a hard fold down the centre of the chest, and a centre zip sits exactly in that fold, digging in. Moving the zip to one side puts it off the fold line and lets the overlapping panel double up as a windbreak. Every classic biker jacket since has kept the detail because it works, and because the diagonal line across the chest became the visual signature of the whole category.
Stud placement and weight
Studs add weight, and weight in the wrong place drags a jacket out of shape. On this jacket the studs are concentrated on the shoulders and lapels — areas supported by the structure of the garment — rather than spread across the lower back, where they would pull the hem down over time.
