What the band collar does
A cafe racer collar is a low stand that closes right at the neck, with no lapels and no fold. It exists because a lapel lifts and flaps at speed, and it survives because it produces the cleanest possible neckline — nothing interrupts the vertical line of the zip. On a coat length that matters even more: any collar detail at the top of a long garment draws the eye up and shortens the line, and a band collar does not.
Coat length on a close cut
Two practical consequences. Weight — a longer body means more leather hanging from the shoulder seams, which is why the shoulders here are taped, the standard reinforcement on long leather and worth checking on any long coat. Movement — a close-cut coat below the hip restricts stride unless it has a vent or split at the back, since leather gives nothing. Check for one on any long fitted leather coat.
How it wears
