An oversized collar
Scaling a collar up is not simply a matter of cutting it bigger. A large collar carries real weight, so the neckline and shoulder seams have to be reinforced or the collar drags the jacket backwards off the shoulders. The collar stand also has to be deep enough that the collar rolls rather than flopping forward.
Both are done here, which is why the collar holds its shape turned up rather than collapsing. Turned down it sits across the shoulders like a shawl, which is how most people wear it indoors.

Combining a leather body with a shearling collar gives you something a full shearling jacket cannot: a slimmer silhouette. Full sheepskin is bulky everywhere by nature. Here the bulk is concentrated at the collar, where it looks intentional, and the body stays close and light.
