Lambskin is thinner and more flexible than cowhide. In a vest that shows up in three ways: the weight drops noticeably, the vest drapes over your shoulders instead of standing away from them, and there is no break-in period at all. It also sits flat under a coat, which a stiff cowhide vest never quite does.
The honest trade-off is durability. Lambskin marks more easily and is not the hide you want if the vest is going to be rubbed against a seat back every day or stitched through repeatedly with patches. Handmade construction
The vest is cut and stitched by hand rather than assembled on a line. On a soft hide that matters: the panels have to be eased into the seams rather than pulled, or the leather stretches and the vest ends up hanging unevenly at the hem. Seams are stitched close with fine thread to suit the weight of the leather, and the armholes are bound rather than left raw.
The front zip is a lighter metal tooth zip than we use on cowhide vests, chosen to match the weight of the hide — a heavy zip on a soft panel pulls the leather out of shape.
Fit and styling
The cut is classic and shaped through the waist, ending at the hip. Take your normal size to wear over a tee or fine knit. Lambskin has natural give, so most people do not need to size up, but go up one if a thicker layer is going underneath.
