How the studs are fitted

Each stud is pushed through a punched hole in the hide and its prongs are folded flat on the reverse against a backing washer. Machine-pressed studs skip the washer, which means the prongs bear directly on the leather; every time the jacket flexes, the metal saws at the hide until the stud works loose and leaves a hole.

Doing it by hand takes hours rather than minutes, which is why hand-studded jackets cost more and take longer to make. It is also why we are willing to describe the process in detail: it is what you are paying for.

The leather underneath

Studded jackets need a firm hide. A soft nappa shell would bubble and stretch around each fixing, and the panels would sag under the weight of metal. This one uses a real leather with enough substance to hold hardware flat while still softening with wear.

The jacket is fully lined so no stud backing touches you. On a studded jacket that is not a luxury — an unlined one is genuinely uncomfortable over a t-shirt.

The cut is a classic biker: asymmetric zip, fold-back lapels, snap collar tab, zipped chest and hip pockets, zip cuffs. Take your normal size over a tee or thin knit; studded panels have limited give, so size up if you plan to layer.
