How much the lacing actually gives you

Around two inches at the chest and waist. That is enough to take the vest from close over a tee to comfortable over a shirt and jumper, or to allow for the jacket most riders wear underneath. It is not a full size of adjustment, so still order your normal size rather than treating the lacing as a substitute for sizing.

How the lacing is built

The eyelets are metal and set through reinforced tabs, so the lace pulls against a backing rather than cutting into a single layer of hide. And the lace itself is leather rather than cord — cord frays, shrinks when damp and eventually snaps, where a leather lace lasts as long as the vest.

Genuine leather chosen firm rather than soft, since a vest takes constant abrasion and a soft hide sags at the shoulder within a year. Double-stitched seams with heavy polyester thread. Fastenings set through reinforced tabs. Two side pockets, an interior pocket, bound armholes, and a single clean back panel with no seam across it for patches.
