Men’s Flight A-2 Bomber Leather Jacket
The lining is the part of a flight jacket nobody photographs and the part you feel every time you put it on. On an A-2 it is also historically specific, so it is worth explaining what is in there and why. This jacket sits in our aviator and pilot leather jackets range.

Why A-2 jackets are lined in plain fabric, not quilting
The original A-2 used a plain cotton lining, not a quilted or insulated one. That surprises people, because a jacket built for cold weather would seem to want insulation. The reason is that the A-2 was never meant to be the only layer — it was worn over a uniform and often under heavier flying kit, and the jacket's job was to block wind and seal warm air in with its knit trims, not to insulate on its own. A plain lining also lets the jacket slide on over layers without dragging, which a quilted one does less well.
What a good lining does for you
Three things. It stops the leather sticking to bare arms in warm weather. It lets the jacket go on over a jumper without pulling the sleeves inside out. And it protects the inside face of the hide from body oils, which is what dries leather out from within over years. A lining that is stitched in at the seams rather than bonded can also be replaced when it eventually wears at the armhole — the shell will outlast several linings.
The rest of the A-2 specification
Knit cuffs and waistband, a shirt-style snap-down collar, a wind flap behind the zip, and flapped patch pockets with no hand-warmer openings. Short in the body so it does not bunch when seated.
Stated plainly: this is a fashion jacket in the A-2 style. Not military issue, no insignia or squadron markings, no affiliation with any air force.
Sizing and made to order
Measure your chest over a T-shirt — or over a jumper if you intend to layer, since a lined jacket has marginally less internal room. Sizes run XS to 5XL, with Custom taking chest, waist, shoulder, sleeve, and body length.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the jacket insulated?
No — it has a plain fabric lining, as the original A-2 did. The knit trims seal warm air in; the jacket was designed to be worn over layers.
Can the lining be replaced?
Yes, if it is stitched in at the seams rather than bonded. The leather shell will outlast several linings.
Why does a lining matter?
It stops leather sticking to skin, lets the jacket go on over a jumper, and protects the inside of the hide from body oils.
Is this military issue?
No. It is a fashion jacket in the A-2 style with no insignia or affiliation.
Should I size up to layer?
Measure over what you plan to wear underneath — a lined jacket has slightly less internal room.
Do you offer custom sizing?
Yes. Choose Custom and send chest, waist, shoulder, sleeve, and body length.
Is shipping free?
Yes, free worldwide shipping and secure checkout.
