How a shine finish works
The hide is polished and sealed at the tannery, which closes the surface and makes it reflective. That is also what changes how it behaves: a sealed surface does not breathe the way an open matte hide does, does not absorb conditioner in the same way, and shows scratches more readily because a mark interrupts a reflection rather than blending into a texture.
None of that makes it fragile. It makes it different, and the care instructions follow from it rather than from habit.
Caring for gloss, specifically
A soft dry cloth is the whole routine. Never use an abrasive cloth or a polish with any grit in it — on a matte hide a light scuff disappears, on gloss it dulls the surface permanently in that spot.
Hang it rather than folding it. A hard crease in a sealed finish can craze, which shows as a fine white line that does not come out. And keep it away from heat, which is what dries and dulls any sealed leather.
