Lambskin in a vest

Most vests use cowhide because they are built for abrasion. Lambskin trades that toughness for weight and flexibility. In practice it means a vest you can wear all day without noticing, that sits flat under a coat, and that is comfortable from the first wear rather than after a month.

The honest trade-off: lambskin marks more easily than cowhide and is not the hide for a stitched back patch or constant seat-back abrasion. For that, our cowhide vests in the Women Leather Vests range are the right choice. This is a wearing vest, not a working one.

The zip

A metal tooth zip rather than snaps. On a soft leather that is the better closure — snaps on a lightweight hide pull the panels into points between fasteners, while a zip distributes the closure evenly and keeps the front line flat.

The zip is stitched to a reinforced backing tape so the pull load goes into the backing rather than into a single layer of thin hide. On lambskin that reinforcement is not optional; without it a zip will eventually tear out.

Cut and construction

A slim women's fit with shaped side seams and higher armholes so the vest stays on the shoulder. The body ends at the hip.

Seams are stitched close with fine thread matched to the weight of the leather — heavy stitching on thin lambskin puckers the panel. Armholes are bound rather than left raw, and there is an interior pocket.

Fit and styling

Take your normal size over a top or fine knit. Lambskin has natural give so most people do not need to size up, but go up one for a thicker layer underneath.
