Women Brown Shearling Leather Jacket
Brown is the original colour for shearling and it remains the one that ages best. This women's shearling jacket is real sheepskin with the wool left on the inside, in a mid brown that deepens and gains tonal variation with wear. It is a straightforward warm winter jacket rather than a period reproduction — no heavy buckle hardware, no flight-jacket references, just the material doing what it does.

How brown shearling ages
Unlike black, brown sheepskin changes visibly over the years. The cuffs, front edges and collar lighten first as the surface takes handling, and the overall tone deepens. Within two or three winters the jacket has a depth of colour that a new one does not, which is the reason people who own shearling tend to keep it for decades.
If you want a jacket that looks identical in year five, black is the better choice — there are black options in our Shearling Leather Jackets range.
Why sheepskin is warm
One skin doing two jobs. The hide side blocks wind completely; the wool side traps warm air against your body. Because both are the same piece of skin there is no separate lining to shift out of place, no seam for cold air to find, and no synthetic wadding to compress and lose loft.
That last point is the important one. A padded jacket loses warmth as its filling flattens; a sheepskin jacket does not, which is why it stays as warm in year ten as when new.
Fit and construction
Cut for a woman's frame — narrower shoulders and a body length that ends at the hip rather than below it. The collar is shearling rather than plain leather, so it is warm against the neck and can be turned up in wind.
Cuffs and hem are finished in sheepskin rather than knit ribbing, so there is no cold gap at the wrist or waist. Seams are stitched with heavy thread, which sheepskin needs because of its weight.
Weight and styling
Full sheepskin is heavy — several times the weight of a plain leather jacket. There is no light version of this material.
Take your normal size; room for a jumper underneath is already in the pattern. Brown shearling pairs naturally with cream, camel, denim and grey. It looks better with boots than trainers. See our Women B3 Leather Jackets for the aviator patterns, or Women Leather Jackets for lighter options.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the wool real?
Yes, it is the natural fleece of the same sheepskin, not a fake fur lining stitched in.
Will the brown colour change?
Yes, and that is intended. Cuffs, edges and collar lighten with handling while the overall tone deepens.
How warm is it?
Very. Sheepskin blocks wind completely and traps warm air, and unlike padded jackets it does not lose warmth as it ages.
Is it heavy?
Yes. Full sheepskin weighs several times what a plain leather jacket does. Anything light is not full sheepskin.
What size should I order?
Your normal size. Room for a jumper underneath is already built into the pattern.
Can I wear it in the rain?
Light rain is fine — wipe it and let it dry naturally. Never soak sheepskin or dry it near a heater.
How do I care for it?
Dry cloth on the leather, soft brush on the wool. Never machine wash, dry clean or soak it.
