Why the waistband changes everything

The single biggest comfort problem with leather trousers is the waistband. A rigid leather band with a zip and button has to be exactly right — a centimetre out in either direction and it digs in or gapes, and unlike fabric there is no give to absorb the difference.

An elasticated drawstring waist removes the problem entirely. It moves with you, sits flat under a top, and makes sizing far more forgiving than on any other leather trouser. If you have tried leather trousers and given up, this is the pattern to try next.

Lambskin, and why it has to be

A jogger only works in a hide light enough to gather at the waist and cuff without bulking up. Cowhide gathered into an elastic waistband becomes a solid ring; lambskin does not. It is also soft from the first wear with no break-in, which suits a trouser meant to feel easy.

The trade-off is that lambskin marks more easily than cowhide. These are for wearing, not for hard use.

Construction

The waistband is elasticated with a drawstring, and the cuffs are gathered so the leg tapers cleanly to the ankle. Both are the points where a leather jogger usually fails — too thick a hide and they bunch, too thin and they lose shape. The weight here is chosen for that balance.

Seams are stitched with fine thread matched to the leather. Side pockets are lined and stitched flat.

Fit and styling

Take your normal size. The elastic waist makes sizing much more forgiving than a zip-fly leather trouser, so there is little risk here.

Trainers and an oversized hoodie or knit is the streetwear reading, and it is the one most buyers go for. With heeled boots and a fitted top they push considerably dressier.
