Two details give this jacket its character, and both come from different places. The notched collar is tailoring — the same collar shape a blazer uses, with a step cut where the collar meets the lapel. The oblique zip is motorcycle — a front closure running diagonally rather than straight. What a notched collar is

The notch is the small V-shaped step where the collar meets the lapel. On a blazer it is the standard construction; on leather it is rare, because the notch has to be cut and turned precisely or the two edges do not meet cleanly, and every needle hole in leather is permanent.

The effect is to soften the neckline. A biker jacket's fold-back lapel is one continuous piece and reads hard; a notched collar breaks that line and reads closer to a jacket you would wear to work.

The oblique zip

Running the zip diagonally rather than straight up the centre does two things. It moves the closure off your centre line, which is more flattering than a straight vertical for most people. And it lets the top of the jacket fold open into the collar rather than closing at the throat.
